This is a two-year course aimed to develop knowledge and understanding of the broad area of business through study of authentic business concepts. It provides students with the opportunity through applied learning to develop core principles and specialist knowledge and understanding required in the business sector. It is suitable for all students who wish to gain a Level 3 qualification in business, and is equivalent to an A Level.

Course Content

The course is made up of five units – three mandatory and two optional.

Mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – The business environment
  • Unit 2 – Working in business
  • Unit 4 – Customers and communication

Optional units:

  • Unit 3 – Business decisions
  • Unit 5 – Marketing and market research
  • Unit 8 – Introduction to human resources
  • Unit 11 – Accounting concepts
  • Unit 16 – Principles of project management
  • Unit 17 – Responsible business practices
  • Unit 19 – International business
  • Unit 20 – Business events
  • Unit 21 – Being entrepreneurial – evaluating viable opportunities

Assessment
This course consists of a mixture of external examination and internal assessment. Units 1, 2 and 3 are externally examined, all other units are internally assessed and externally moderated.
