During your son/ward’s KS4 experience within Travel and Tourism they will learn about all aspects of the industry. They will complete the BTEC Level1/2 Tech Award in Travel and Tourism. They complete three mandatory components. One of these is an exam unit the other two are coursework units which are marked internally.

In Year 10 students will look at two of the components. Their first coursework unit which is Component 1: Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations. This is where they learn about all individual aspects of the industry and how they all work together. After this they will then look at different destinations and how they appeal to different types of tourists. Next students will look at Component 2: Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism.

This looks at the different types of market research and meeting and exceeding customers’ needs through a variety of different scenarios. They will take all they have learnt during this course and apply it to their final pieces of coursework.


In Year 11 they will complete their exam unit: Global Influences on the Travel and Tourism Industry. Within this component they will learn how different factors such as politics and health impact the industry. This will take place in February of Year 11.
